Alexandria Bay Local Waterfront Revitalization Program

Alexandria Bay, New York

As sister communities located in the Thousand Island region along the St. Lawrence River, the Village of Alexandria Bay and Town of Alexandria have been working together to revitalize their waterfronts. The Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP), administered by the New York State Department of State, provides local waterfront communities the resources necessary to improve their waterfront by protecting the natural, cultural, and historic resources that contribute to their character. Through the LWRP the village and town, with EDR’s assistance, have identified a clear vision with supporting strategies to revitalize the waterfront by rehabilitating historic structures, improving waterfront recreational opportunities, restoring natural resources and protecting scenic resources. The Town of Alexandria and the Village of Alexandria Bay have tremendous waterfront resources including exceptionally dynamic ecological and scenic waterfronts. The program has helped to increase local awareness of opportunities for growth and challenges to development. With rigorous policies and implementation strategies, the village and town will experience growth while protecting its scenic and environmental resources.
