Village of Sackets Harbor, New York
As a historic village nestled on the shores of Lake Ontario, Sackets Harbor was aware of the growing development pressure from the continued growth of Fort Drum. In 2005 the Village of Sackets Harbor embarked on updating its Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan (LWRP) and Harbor Management Plan (HMP) to ensure its water-use and land-use policies, goals and objectives were up to date to protect its unique resources. During that process the village decided to develop a new form-based zoning code (authored by EDR) to ensure future growth would follow the community’s vision as a unique and historic waterfront community. EDR was retained to assist the village establish a framework of policies to protect and enhance the village’s resources, analyze its opportunities and challenges, and identify priority projects that meet the goals and objectives of the LWRP and support smart and sustainable growth.
