Congratulations to Ørsted and Eversource on the recent approval of the South Fork Wind, New York’s first offshore wind project! The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) approval of the Construction and Operation Plan is a major milestone in the advancement of clean energy in the United States. The project will now move to the construction phase with anticipated project completion at the end of 2023. When completed, the project located off the coast of Long Island is anticipated to produce enough energy to power 70,000 homes.
EDR is proud to have been part of the South Fork Wind Team since 2017. EDR has provided expert consulting services to support BOEM’s review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and New York State’s review of the Article VII Application for the project’s electrical transmission and interconnection facilities, submitted to the New York State Public Service Commission. EDR’s role has included preparation of the project’s Visual Impact Assessment, terrestrial archaeological surveys, review of visual impacts to historic properties, air quality permits, essential fish habitat assessment, and strategic oversight of consultation under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
