Project Manager, Environmental Services

EDR is seeking a versatile, team-oriented Project Manager to join our Environmental Services Group in New York State with a preference for candidates based within commutable distance to one of our offices in Syracuse, Rochester, or Albany, NY. Qualified candidates in other locations will be considered. As a Project Manager, you will lead and manage complex environmental permitting and natural resource projects across the Northeast, with a focus on projects in New York. This position involves interdisciplinary coordination, regulatory strategy, client interaction, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee preparation of environmental resource studies, impact assessments, and permit applications.
  • Lead projects through state and federal environmental permitting, including:
    • NYS Article VIII (Large-Scale Renewables and Transmission), Article 15 (Surface Waters), and Article 24 (Freshwater Wetlands)
    • SEQRA, NEPA, Clean Water Act (Sections 401/404)
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies such as ORES, NYSDEC, NYSERDA, USACE, USFWS, and other state/local boards.
  • Lead and mentor interdisciplinary teams, ensuring deliverables meet quality, budget, and timeline expectations.
  • Engage in strategic client communication, regulatory consultation, and business development
  • Represent EDR at project-specific meetings, hearings, and professional conferences.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about advancing meaningful projects, experienced in navigating permits and regulations, and ready to lead exciting client relationships with a collaborative team. Here’s what would make you a great fit:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental science, natural resource management, ecology, or related field. Master’s degree in similar field(s) preferred.
  • At least 7-10 years of relevant experience conducting environmental, ecological, or natural resources studies/surveys/projects.
  • At least 1 year of project management experience in the natural resources sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead professional staff.
  • Proven Technical expertise in:
    • overseeing and directing the production of resource studies and permit applications
    • effective QA/QC of deliverables
    • consultation with clients, permitting attorneys, and regulatory agency personnel
    • participation in business development activities such as developing strong client relationships, providing high-quality services, and attending professional conferences and networking events.
    • Managing a range of projects in both size and complexity within defined schedule and budget.
    • Verbal communication, organizational, and writing skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet driving requirements.
  • Experience with renewable energy, transmission, public utilities, or large/complex developments
  • Experience reviewing and assessing technical studies such as wetland delineations, cultural resources assessments, wildlife surveys, visual impact assessments, and environmental monitoring for active construction projects preferred.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $85,000 to $110,000 per year, based on qualifications and experience. EDR reserves the right to offer compensation outside of this range based on education, credentials, skills, internal equity, geographic location, and business needs.
