EDR is seeking an experienced, team-oriented Archaeologist with demonstrated ability to conduct archaeological monitoring and other archaeological fieldwork. Primary responsibilities will include archaeological monitoring and technical reporting during construction of large transportation and infrastructure projects. Depending on project schedules, opportunities to travel and join EDR field crews for archaeology surveys might be available. This role reports to the Archaeology Services Leader and will work as part of archaeological field teams. This is a seasonal or full-time role and requires candidates to be based in or relocate to Syracuse, NY.
Essential Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- BA (or graduate degree) in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
- Prior experience conducting archaeological fieldwork. Preference will be given to those candidates who have prior experience in archaeological monitoring.
- Strong technical writing skills and ability to prepare daily construction monitoring reports (or similar).
- A positive attitude, enthusiasm for teamwork, and appreciation for both the challenges and benefits of working in a dynamic outdoor field environment.
- Working knowledge of GIS and GPS technology, mapping, analysis, and data processing.
- Ability to travel (locally and out of state when required). Note that this position is anticipated to be primarily focused on local work in Syracuse, NY; however, occasional support for other projects requiring travel may be necessary.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, possibly for extended hours (over 8), in a construction setting.
- The ability to carry equipment (shovel, screen, and GPS unit) while conducting fieldwork.
The anticipated base pay range is $22-24 per hour commensurate with experience. EDR reserves the right to pay outside of the target range based on an individual’s education, credentials, skill level and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity, geographic location, and business needs.
