Syracuse Comprehensive Historic Resources Survey (Phases 2 and 3)

Syracuse Onondaga County Planning Agency
City of Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York

The City of Syracuse is conducting a comprehensive survey to identify and map new historic properties and districts to allow for better planning and stewardship of the City’s historic and architectural legacy. EDR is committed to the preservation of historic properties in our communities, and we are thrilled to have been selected to undertake the second and third phases of this comprehensive historic resources survey on behalf of the City.  In 2020, EDR completed the second part of a three-phase survey plan that encompassed the City’s west side, including the neighborhoods of Brighton, Elmwood, Far Westside, Near Westside, Park Avenue, Skunk City, Southside, Southwest, Strathmore, and Tipperary Hill.  In 2021, we are undertaking a survey of the City’s south and east sides, including the University, Meadowbrook, Outer Comstock, and Valley neighborhoods.

EDR’s Cultural Resources staff are working closely with the Syracuse-Onondaga County Planning Agency, New York State Historic Preservation Office, Syracuse Landmark Preservation Board, and other partners to complete this important preservation planning project.  The historic resources survey is being funded by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation under a Certified Local Government (CLG) grant.
