Denali Water Solutions and NY City Department of Sanitation (DSNY)

EDR team members provide support services to Denali Water Solutions and the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) for operations at a variety of the City’s yard waste and food waste composting facilities. A recent focus was implementation of Master Planning efforts to convert the Staten Island Yard Waste Compost site into the City’s first commercially sized food waste composting site to serve the residents and businesses of Staten Island. Master Planning activities included interaction with DSNY leadership, state regulators, and local building officials. The Master Plan ultimately recommended a phased approach to the site conversion as DSNY advanced their Zero Waste Vision to increase organics recycling. Efforts included discussions with multiple departments at the state regulatory agency relative to potential environmental and community impacts, as well as development of informational presentations for use by DSNY leadership. The Master Plan served as the primary guidance document for subsequent construction activities at the site, including construction of a micro-pore cover, aerated static pile (ASP) composting system.
