In 2017, the Towns of Macedon, Marion, and Village of Palmyra determined the best option to address the region’s long-term wastewater needs was to consolidate the existing three wastewater treatment plants into one new plant. To accomplish this consolidation, nearly 65,000 linear feet of sewer would be constructed. EDR was selected to design the new pump stations and sewer system. The system includes three directional drills to cross Red Creek, the Erie Canal, and avoid disturbance of wetlands. EDR is responsible for permitting, design, and construction administration for the new sewers. This project is utilizing HDPE pipe for the sewers. It was determined the existing soils are acidic and, due to the size of pipe, HDPE was the most cost-effective material. The EDR design had to incorporate an expansion/contract feature to allow the HDPE to expand or contract during seasonal changes in temperature.
