John Hecklau Honored with Clean Energy Rockstar Award

EDR is proud to congratulate John Hecklau, EDR Principal, Environmental Services, on being honored with the Clean Energy Rockstar Award.

Hecklau received the inaugural award during the Alliance for Clean Energy New York (ACE NY) Fall Conference, held October 22-23, in Albany, NY. The Clean Energy Rockstar Award recognizes those whose long-standing careers have advanced the growth and success of the renewable energy industry throughout the state of New York.

A certified Wildlife Biologist, Hecklau has more than 30 years of experience in environmental planning and consulting – most of it dedicated to energy projects. He has led environmental reviews and permitting for more than 50 commercial wind power projects, as well as hydroelectric relicensing studies and environmental impact assessments for solar generating facilities, transmission lines, and other energy generation developments.

“John’s relentless attention to detail and commitment to quality have had a profound impact on New York’s renewable energy industry,” stated Ben Brazell, ERD Principal-in-Charge, Environmental Services. “The foundations he established continue to influence this industry today and will influence its future.”

Since 1993, Hecklau has served as principal-in-charge or project manager on all the firm’s visual impact assessment projects. He has provided expert witness testimony, made numerous presentations, and published articles on visual impact issues associated with utility-scale wind power projects. He earned his Master of Science in Environmental & Forest Biology from SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Middlebury College.
